Where our listings come from

Every shop starts with public business information. Ratings and reviews are our own.

Shop listings

Shop names, addresses, phone numbers and map locations come from the Overture Maps Foundation places data (release 2026-09-23). Overture combines open data from several companies. That data is shared under these licenses:

We remove listings that are marked closed, look like duplicates, or aren’t smoke, vape or tobacco shops. Some details may still be out of date. If you spot one, tell us, and shop owners can claim their page.

The green check: state license on file

In seven states the government publishes its list of licensed tobacco and vape retailers. Every month we download those lists and match them to our shops. When a shop’s address and name match a current license, its page shows a green check: State license on file, with the date we checked.

We only show the check on a strong match: same ZIP code or city, same street number and street, and a matching shop name. No check does not mean a shop is unlicensed. The shop may be licensed under a different business name, the state may leave some licenses off its public list (California leaves out sole owners), or our listing may be out of date. Other states don’t publish a list we can check yet. A shop can claim its page and send us its license to fix a missing check.

The check is information from public records, not a legal finding. To confirm a license, ask the state agency.

Maps

Map tiles from OpenFreeMap and OpenMapTiles, with map data © OpenStreetMap contributors. ZIP code locations from the U.S. Census Bureau. Your approximate area when you first open the site comes from our web host, Netlify, based on your internet connection.

Ratings and reviews

Ratings come only from our own unannounced visits and verified customer visits. A listed shop shows “Not rated yet” until then. See our rating rules.
